Book Review: City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare.

City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments, #5)City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare.
(Mortal Instruments #5)
Book Summary:
What price is too high to pay, even for love? When Jace and Clary meet again, Clary is horrified to discover that the demon Lilith’s magic has bound her beloved Jace together with her evil brother Sebastian, and that Jace has become a servant of evil. The Clave is out to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. As Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle wheedle and bargain with Seelies, demons, and the merciless Iron Sisters to try to save Jace, Clary plays a dangerous game of her own. The price of losing is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him? Or is he truly lost?

Liana's Summary: Jace is gone. He isn't supposed to be. All Clary said to him was "Five minutes". He couldn't wait for 5 minutes. He just had to disappear. When Clary actually finds him, though, she realizes that Jace is not Jace. He has mysterious ties to Sebastian. As Simon, Magnus, Alec, and Isabelle try to help break the ties, Clary has to go through the most dangerous task of all- facing Sebastian and finding out his plan.

I'm actually done with this book. WHY?! WHY. WHY. I don't wanna wait 'till 2014! It's too far away! D: I'm going to die waiting and I'll be an old maid and omg. Literally, at the last page of this book, I yelled "OH. MY. GOD." out loud. It was such a cliffhanger. Why.

This was the one book in this whole year that I was reluctant to finish because it was too fabulous and I didn't WANT to finish and have to deal with the 'waiting in agony for the next book' stage.

I tell you one thing I notice- book summaries spoil way to much. Ugh.

This has the sexiest cover of all TMI books--(They're all sexy btw) but I think the cover for City of Fallen Angels is pretty attractive too. ;D

And since I'm going to have to suffer 2 years, I might as well make this book review great so I can review City of Lost Souls when I get my hands on City of Heavenly Fire and forget everything. Therefore, Character Discussions! (:
-These may have minor spoilers. Your choice to read them or not! -

Clary- I LOVE her stubbornness! She's a really strong female protagonist, and I love reading about those kinds of characters. Like, I really hate butt weak protagonists that let people do things to them against their will.

Jace- KING of Arrogance (and not to mention, Hotness). He's related to William Herondale from the Infernal Devices. Which explains everything! I heard that he's quite hate-able in this book but I don't really know why. Even after I finished it. I was expecting him to start acting horrible and yeah. But it never happened, and I admit, I'm thankful for it! Phew. I love Jace though. Jalary 5ever.

Simon- I like Simon better than Jace. First of all, because he's modest. And his sense of HUMOR. Oh my goodness, his humor. It never dies even if he's about to die. And he's hot. Just saying.

Alec- I used to dislike him a lot. Just because he was a grouchy little mmf and like, he hated Clary. But as I got further into the story I realized that he needed to be understood a lot more.

Magnus- One word: FABULOUS. He's the only immortal who can pull off the sparkles. Yeeeah. Wow. He's done a really good job at being Alec's boyfriend. THEY ARE SO CUTE TOGETHER. I SWEAR TO GOD THEY ARE THE CUTEST GAY COUPLE EVER.

Isabelle- I thought she was a bit arrogant at first, but, trust me, she got a LOT better. (: She's insecure on the inside. <3

Jordan- At first I thought that he would become an antagonist, but, no! It's just the addition of another awesome protagonist. (:

Maia- I don't know why I shipped her and Simon at all in the first place. LOL. Anyways. She's alright. I don't really notice her. (x

Jocelyn- I honestly don't think that her decision about hiding Clary from the world of Shadowhunters was a good idea. Bad idea. But otherwise, she's pretty cool. (But overprotective. A little too overprotective?)

Luke- He's fabu~ Most awesome werewolf I have ever read about.

And, don't EVEN. Get me started. On the antagonists. Just no. That will be all.

I technically described most of the stuff in the previous 4 books about the author, her style of writing, and this beautiful, beautiful plot. So it explains why it isn't that long.

And, I suppose, quotes and commentary! (:

"You said you knew a way Magnus and I could be together forever."

Oh lord. He's so attached.

"But you can take Magnus's away."

HOW DARE YOU, ALEC. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. You jealous, selfish--

"He'd been a pretty hipster boy when she'd met him,.."

This is ridiculously funny for no reason. LOL.

"Though, technically, my family is British---"

Oh la la. (;

"Luke hit him."

Woot! Go Luke! YOU GOTS THIS.

"So they love each other now? They're best friends?"

Ohmygoodness. Alec.

"You want to get married?"
"Don't be an idiot."

Omg, his unintentional humor.

"I want you to kill Raphael Santiago."

"I hate ducks. Don't know why. I just always have."

Oh, the chromosomes got passed down. (': Will hates ducks too.

"Nerd love. It is a beautiful thing,.."

Of course it is. (;

"Jace's amber eyes studied her."

I read 4 books of this series and I find out his eyes are amber in the 5th one. omg.

"I banish you."

I banish you! Because I'm fabu~

"She could see the pattern of gold and darker gold in his irises,.."

His eyes are so pretty omg.

"Can you give me a chance?"

"Sebastian swore with relief.."

K, so how do you swear with relief? F---, thank the f---ing goodness!

"..using the tip of it to slice Clary's shirt open from the collar to the hem."

Rapist.

"Come with me. I want to show you something."

This can't end up well.

"I don't want to be Nephilim."

"Jace. My Jace."

"He seized the front of Clary's dress."

Rapist.

"Jeremy."

Wait what who when what how
Who's Jeremy?!

"Then Maryse turned and walked back toward the battle."

"..his tone imperious."

Well, whatever state he's in, he's always Jace.

"I am going to kill Sebastian,"

"Always."

That's a Snape line. :D Bringing back the HP? (;
-------------

Notice that there was quite less this time! I was paying too much attention to the story to actually bother to do quotes. But I tried. (: Hope you enjoyed this review! So, what did you think?(: If you haven't read this series, I totally bet that you think I'm fangirling too hard. If you have, then you feel my pain and agony in waiting for the next book.

And that's it!
